Event Planning Jobs HQ
The event planning industry has experienced exponential growth over the last 10-15 years. According to research, over $500Billion is spent each year on event planning across the globe. This exponential growth has greatly been attributed to an improved economy, the need to have events planned and organized professionally so as to meet the demands of today’s target market, and the trend that has been experienced in businesses trying to outsource their planning and meeting functions to event planners.
Just the mention of event planning jobs and the first thing that comes to the mind of many is planning a wedding or a birthday party. While these are events, they are a traditional depiction of the actual events planning job in today’s growing industry. Event planning involves a diverse number of social and business occasions and events. Generally, each event will fall under a category, such as Promotions, celebrations, education, or commemorations. Celebrations can cover such things as birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, and parades.
Educational events can cover such things as conferences and the common graduation parties. Promotional events on the other hand could cover such things as product launches, political rallies, and fashion shows to mention but a few. As for commemoration events, an events planning job can include planning a memorial or civil event.
The event planner will need to do numerous tasks to see to it that an upcoming event is a success. As such, the role of an events planner could be to find the ideal venue or site for an upcoming event, to do research for the clients looking to have the event organized, and creating the event theme and design. Event planning is also about arranging the theme décor for the day, and ensuring entertainment and food are well taken care of. It is also the role of an events planner to see to it that accommodation arrangements are made (should there be a need for it), and ensure that all invitations are sent out on time.
For you to be able to become a competent and highly-sought after event planner, you will need to gain relevant qualification. You can obtain a certificate or degree in event planning and management. This will give you an upper hand in the job market, and when coupled with experience in planning successful events, it will only be a matter of time before you become the most sought-after event planner.
If you have the experience in planning events but lack the certification, you can consider enrolling in a Certified Meeting Planner (CPM) or Certified Special Events Professional (CSEP) courses. These are short courses that will equally give you that competitive edge in the job market, while making you a versatile and informed event planner.
With that being said, it takes so much time, research, study, and effort to become an all-round event planner. Because the post carries a significant deal of responsibility in the job market, you can rest assured that certification will give you that competitive edge that you need in the current cut-throat business world.
